What the difference actually is

A body mist is mostly a carrier with a little fragrance in it. It sprays wide, smells immediately, and sits lightly on the skin. A perfume oil is concentrated and has no alcohol in it, so nothing evaporates off the top: it goes on quietly and stays.

That is the whole trade. A mist announces itself and fades; an oil says less and lasts.

When each one wins

Mist in the morning after a shower, before the gym, on a hot afternoon, or any time you want to feel fresh rather than perfumed. It is the one you can use generously without thinking about it.

Oil for a long day, an evening, an office where a spray would be too much, or travel, where a small roll on bottle beats carrying a glass flacon. It is also the kinder choice on skin that alcohol dries out.

Using them together

Roll the oil on first, at the pulse points, then mist over the chest and shoulders. The oil anchors the scent for the day and the mist gives it the lift it would otherwise lack.

Keep to one family when you layer. Two unrelated scents fight, and the result usually smells like neither.
